Host Wheaton Warrenville South
hopes to be 1st to solve Lake Park
Visitors yet to allow DVC goal;
WWS moves Senior Night to next week

Lake Park can be a party pooper.
Last year, the Lancers spoiled Naperville Central’s Senior Night with a 2-1 victory.
They’ll look to ruin another one as they travel to Wheaton on Thursday night to face Wheaton Warrenville South during its Senior Night.
Wait, not so fast.
With thunderstorms in the forecast and many seniors to recognize, Wheaton Warrenville South coach Guy Callipari has switched Senior Night to next Thursday when the Tigers face St. Charles East.
“With the weather prediction and 18 seniors on the ticket, we didn’t want the night to be dampened by the weather,” Callipari said. “Right now we’re just hoping to get the game in, and it’s a busy week already with Homecoming so we didn’t have any other options.”
Lake Park (11-1-4, 1-0-2) seems to rise to the level of its DVC competition and will look to do the same in another big conference game.
“We played 100 minutes (on Tuesday) again and there was no letdown whatsoever,” Lake Park coach Anthony Passi said. “That’s how it is every time in the DVC. We played 100 minutes against Naperville North and we played a full 80-minute game to beat Glenbard North, 1-0. These conference games are the best. We’ve got Wheaton Warrenville South and Wheaton North left and they probably won’t be any different.”
The Lancers will look to use Wednesday to physically recover from all the collisions experienced during Tuesday’s 0-0 tie with Naperville Central.
“Nothing more we can do now. It wasn’t a good victory or a good tie,” Lake Park senior defender Miguel Ramirez said. “We’re OK with the result. We gave a full effort.”
Lake Park’s back line of Ramirez, Josh Solarz, Brody Thompson and Franco Mariani and goalkeeper Michael Jasiak have not allowed a goal in DVC play, and that included 40 additional minutes of overtime play in scoreless draws against Naperville Central and Naperville North.
They’ll look to continue their excellent play against a Tigers (5-8-1, 1-2-0) team that hung with a very good Batavia team before losing 1-0 on Monday before answering with a big 5-1 win over Glenbard North on Tuesday.
“I think the difference between the two (games) was that we finished our opportunities,” Callipari said. “(Against Batavia) I thought it was as close as the score indicated. They came in with transition and good pace, and we did a little bit more building up in the third and had some great opportunities but hit side netting and things like that.”
Callipari hasn’t hesitated in going to his bench as he tries to get the best out of his team. It’s not uncommon for 18 to 20 players to see action on any given night as the Tigers attempt to play the best possible soccer now that October has arrived.
“We’re starting to find our roles and take responsibility for that, and I think that’s taken some time,” he said. “Some guys were playing in different areas where they weren’t as comfortable, but now they have a deeper understanding of what they need to do to get us over the hump.”
Reminder: Pack an umbrella just in case it rains.
