Chicagoland Soccer
All-Halloween Team
By Chris (The) Walker (Dead)
None of Chicagoland Soccer’s teams are playing on Halloween in the state series, although some may have schoolmates playing in the volleyball playoffs.
Still there will be soccer thrills aplenty this weekend as Chicagoland Soccer teams fight on Friday to stay alive for a state championship berth.
North Shore Country Day (18-5-1) plays University (Chicago/20-3-2) in a Class A IHSA state semifinal in Peoria.
Class AA’s Crystal Lake South (17-4-4) and Benet (15-1-2) are both still alive for sectional championships. The Gators take on Boylan (14-6-4) at Belvidere and the Redwings meet Lemont (12-3-8) at Romeoville High School.
Chicagoland Soccer has six Class 3A teams left clawing for a state title: three-time defending state champion Naperville North (18-4-2) which meets West Aurora (18-4-1) at 6 p.m. Lockport at 6 p.m.; an all-Chicagoland Soccer final at Libertyville between Fremd (14-1-4) and Warren (16-3-4) at Libertyville at 5:30 p.m.; St. Patrick (23-2-3) vs. Evanston (18-1-2) at Glenbrook South at 6 p.m.; and Morton (20-3-2) vs. Hinsdale Central (11-7-2) at Lyons at 6 p.m.
Class A wraps up Saturday with North Shore Country Day playing for the title or third place.
Also Saturday, York (16-6-1) will try to bar the door against West Chicago (20-2-3) at 11 a.m. at St. Charles East. The winner will bring home the first sectional plaque for many moons.
The Dukes last win was in 2000. Meanwhile, the Wildcats haven’t won one since they beat Addison Trail in 1997, well before we all knew that Y2K was nothing more than a scare.
And speaking of scares, opponents would not only be frightened by the below group's deadly skill the field, but also by their spooky names. So without any further ado and submitted for your approval, here is the Chicagoland Soccer All-Halloween Team.
EDITOR'S NOTE: In case we have made any grave omissions, please email active potential team members names, positions and schools to [email protected]. All high school players in the state are eligible. Updates will be made until the clock strikes midnight, bwa ha ha ha ha!
