Albert's 1st varsity goal a buzzerbeater
Warren freshman delivers in upset win over Lake Forest

GURNEE -- Parity, parity and more parity rules the North Suburban Conference Lake Division this year.
Warren rallied with two goals in the final 11 minutes to surprise Lake Forest 2-1 on Thursday night. The home win over the defending Class 2A state champs put the Blue Devils at the top of the division in winning percentage.
Warren freshman Teagon Albert exploded into the spotlight with the game-winning goal with 3.8 seconds left. She scored her first varsity goal after taking a cross from classmate Grace Wiltgen and placing it in the upper right corner.
"It felt like it was a dream that never happened, but it was so cool," said Albert, who claimed Chicagoland Soccer's MVP of the Match honor for her heroics. "We've been emphasizing for me to be there. So I felt like I was there, and the ball just came to me. I just don't know how the ball got there. There was some nerves, and it was a big goal. At first, I thought it wasn't going to go in and it snuck in there."
Albert made her move setting up on the weak side of the goal and had to be patient for a ball that made its way to her feet from near the corner.
After the victory, Warren (3-5-2, 2-0-2, 8 points) finds itself one point behind Lake Zurich (9-3-1, 3-1-0 in NSC, 9 points) in the Lake Division. The Blue Devils travel to play the Bears, and host Libertyville (6-2-0, 1-1-0), next week. Mundelein (6-2-3 overall) is three points behind Warren with a 1-0-2 conference mark.
"There's so much parity in this division," Warren coach Ryan McCabe said. "You don't know what's going to happen from day-to-day or game-to-game. The girls just started to pick things up a bit and closed the ball a lot harder (second half). When that happens, good things happen.
"Whenever we play Lake Forest it's always close and tight. It's always fun to play."
The Warren goal that tied the game at 1-1 came off a set piece. Alliyah Parker sent a corner kick that Valentina Rodriguez brought down, controlled and placed inside the post in the 69th minute.
"It was a good play," Rodriguez said. "I just figured to try getting a shot. The ball came off my foot, and I got it. We've been working on trying finish with the ball and trying to score with results."
Lake Forest (6-3-2, 1-1-1) had its chances before the game-winner. The Scouts had a shot on goal that was stopped by Blue Devils keeper Liz Carrano (10 saves) in the final two minutes. Another opportunity, a header, missed just wide of the post.
Warren's defense held out with some pretty good efforts from Wayne State-bound Alex Strothers who returned to the lineup after missing the Stevenson game. Lindsay Ditmars, Natalie McNally and Hannah Sislow also put in solid efforts in the back for the Blue Devils.
"We did have great second half," Lake Forest coach Ty Stuckslager said. "We did everything we wanted to do. (Warren) only had two corners, and they finished on one of them. On the end one we didn't mark that well. But before that, we didn't follow our game plan in the last couple of minutes. We could've taken care of that.
"I thought we did well to limit their chances. We had a free header and just put it wide. That's what this conference is all about."
During the first half of play each team played even soccer with some chances, but neither found the back of the net.
But at the beginning stages of the second half. Lake Forest got the scoring started. Junior midfielder Paige Bourne was able to finish a shot that went under the crossbar from up top and over the keeper in the 47th minute. She was set up by a pass from her right from Brooke Green.
The Scouts had a solid defense for the most of the game with Kendall Hoke, Bailey Ehrens and sisters Adrian and Gwen Walker.
