Warren's roll continues against Carmel
Blue Devils remain perfect in 2017, down rusty Corsairs 5-0

MUNDELEIN -- If some have not realized that Warren has a lot to offer on the field this spring, they might to take a closer look at what this team can do. The Blue Devils continued a great start with their sixth-straight victory of the season, a 5-0 shutout over host Carmel in a nonconference match Tuesday night.
Lipscomb-bound Alliyah Parker led the way with a hat trick and was named the Chicagoland Soccer MVP of the Match for her efforts. She now has 6 goals and 6 assists on the season.
However, she's not one to take all the credit on this team. Kaitlyn Chomko (7 goals, 2 assists) also scored along with Alissa Ramsden. Courtney Chomko picked up a couple of assists, and Lindsey Hardiman and Natalie McNally tallied one helper apiece.
"I felt good to get the (hat trick), but we have a lot of players that can score this year," Parker said. "It feels good out there because we move the ball real well. We've got a lot of talent and were really dynamic up-top. We have a way to connect the ball a lot and make a lot of runs together. It's not just one person that can do it."
Warren has been a scoring machine so far this season. Including the five-spot they put on the scoreboard Tuesday, the Blue Devils offense has recorded outputs of seven goals against York (with six coming in the second half of the 7-1 win), a 6-3 win over Marquette (Mo.) 6-3; a 4-0 win over Missouri 2016 state semifinalist Incarnate Word; and a 7-0 romp over Highland Park.
Warren lowest goal total of the season came in its 2-0 season-opening win over Lakes on March 21.
Coach Ryan McCabe really doesn't have an answer for the outbreak of scoring, which stands at a cumulative 32-4 in the Blue Devils favor.
"If I knew I would tell you," McCabe said. "Honestly, each team has their own character, and these girls get into a little bit of a groove. They figure out a niche, and they get ball-hawking, get after it and put the ball into the back of the net. If I could bottle it I would, but I don't know what the secret is."
The team's potent offense has led to a steady rise in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25. Warren started out at 18th in the preseason poll and has now risen to no. 7.
With the dominating start, the Blue Devils are where every coach would like their team to be, but the expectations ahead don't faze McCabe.
"Not really, because I don't ... look too far down the road," he said. "I just want to take it one game at a time. The results will come as long as we keep focusing on the process in practice, stay humble and keep working. These girls are doing a fantastic job of being mindful of that.
"They're a phenomenal group of girls, and they enjoy being around each other. They know that they have something special here, and they pick each other up when they need to. That really brings everything together. It's really fun to be a part of it all."
On Tuesday night, the connections came together with three goals in a span of six minutes in the early part of the first half. It all started in the 10th minute with the Blue Devils sister-sister combination. Younger sis Courtney Chomko dropped the ball off to her older sibling, senior Kaitlyn, who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Then three minutes later, Parker extended the lead after a pass from Hardiman. Ramsden made it 3-0 in the 15th minute, when she scored off a pass from McNally.
Warren's Parker added two more goals in the second half. Her score in the 50th minute came off a pass from Courtney Chomko. The hat trick was completed with a successful PK in the 74th minute.
Lydia Sundberg and Skylar Reilly combined for two saves to split the shutout for Warren. Sundberg stopped a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
Carmel (1-1-1) was coming off its spring break and played in its first game since a 0-0 tie against Hersey on March 23. Meanwhile Warren played three matches in that time span, which included the wins over its Missouri foes in the Parkway College Showcase last weekend in suburban St. Louis.
"Warren was a really good team," Carmel coach Ray Krawzak said. "(Warren) played like they've been playing together over spring break, and they haven't dropped a beat. We haven't practiced and didn't have a good practice (Monday) because of the rain. We haven't been outside in a while."
That made the matchup against Warren a tall order.
"Warren played really well," Krawzak said. "Nothing was working out for us. Our through-balls weren't getting there, and we weren't getting many opportunities. (Warren's) midfield outplayed us.
"We made some changes that I was happy with, but some of the performances -- we're asking a lot from some of these young sophomores. We're seeing good things out of them. (Warren) could be the best team we face this season. We know that they're a good team."
One of the Corsairs team leaders, senior and Vermont recruit Angie Salvi, knows that her team has to put time in to get to the level they hope to achieve. She led the team Tuesday by playing in the midfield and up-top.
"I definitely think we have work to do for the season," Salvi said. "We are so very young, but we have a lot juniors, seniors and upperclassmen. We do have some sophomores. It's just a matter of getting used to each other. We just haven't gotten it together this season yet."
Warren and Carmel will next take part in the PepsiCo Tournament that begins play Saturday at Olympic Park in Schaumburg. The Blue Devils will open up against Wheaton Warrenville South at 11:30 a.m. while the Corsairs will meet up against Crystal Lake South at 2:30 p.m.
