Collaborative effort lifts Prospect over RM
Boduch, Myers net 2 goals each in 4-1 win

ROLLING MEADOWS -- A blend of rock-solid fundamentals and big-time contributions from several players added up to a 4-1 victory for Prospect over host Rolling Meadows in Mid-Suburban League action Tuesday night.
The Knights grabbed an early lead on a goal by Chicagoland Soccer Man of the Match Joey Boduch in the third minute and increased the margin to 3-0 on a pair of goals by senior forward Peyton Myers, both in the 70th minute. The Mustangs pulled within 3-1 on a tally by speedy senior midfielder Rosendo Montiel with 8:53 remaining, but Boduch punctuated his team's stellar performance by notching his second goal of the match in the final two minutes.
"Joey (Boduch) was all over the field -- offensively and defensively," said Prospect head coach Mike Andrews, whose squad improved to 6-4-2 overall and 3-4-1 in league play with the win. "He's just the ultimate workhorse. But it was across the board (Tuesday night). The two quick goals by Peyton (Myers) -- that was huge -- and (senior goalkeeper) Szymon (Mocarski) made some big saves, too.
Andrews continued: "The backline -- (junior defender Edmund) Conroy, composed and in command, and (sophomore mid) Declan Flanagan, good vision, targeting players well. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the effort tonight."
Boduch, a team captain along with Conroy and senior forward Patrick Limanowka, who had two assists, said, "It's not just me; it's the team. I try to dish off, score, make things happen for the team."
Added Conroy: "It's not just a couple of individuals, but a unit. We focus as a team."
Boduch provided the early cushion by executing a perfect give-and-go with the shifty Limanowka. After accepting a return feed from Limanowka in the box, Boduch walked right in and deposited the ball past Rolling Meadows junior keeper Matt Galvan barely three minutes into the match.
The Mustangs (2-8-1, 2-6-0) nearly answered about two minutes later, but a sizzling, 30-yard free kick from the left side by dangerous senior mid Sammy Olague was stopped by a diving Mocarski at the near post. Mocarski then mirrored that save with a diving stop at the left post to spoil a similar free kick by Olague with 31:30 left in the opening session.
Prospect responded with a close-in try by Boduch that missed wide-right in the 12th minute, followed soon after by a 35-yard Boduch free kick that found Limanowka for a short chip shot off the side of the cage in traffic.
The Knights then dominated the possession game for a long spell before Mocarski held his ground to snuff a sneaky, hard strike by Olague in the 29th minute. With three minutes to go before the break, Mustangs junior mid Joao Sanchez stole a ball on the right side and fired a wide-angle shot off the right side of the net.
"We gave up a silly goal early but we tightened up after that," said Rolling Meadows skipper Brett Olson. "We changed up the formation at halftime ... tried to push the pace offensively."
Mustangs sophomore midfielder Luis Marquez said, "The first half, it was a pretty even game -- both had our chances. We're stronger on the offensive side, but we've got to finish."
Prospect's Myers made sure to finish his chances when he tallied back-to-back goals within a 31-second span in the 70th minute to give the Knights an insurmountable 3-0 bulge. His first tally came on a turnaround, left-footed rocket from 35 yards after settling a pass from senior mid Daniel LaCost.
Following the restart, Limanowka sent a long ball to Boduch, who charged ahead before losing possession. But Myers pounced on the loose change and rifled a low, 20-yard strike past a stunned Galvan.
"I saw it was 1-0, not a big-enough lead," Myers said. "So I wanted to turn on the jets and increase the lead. After those goals, we played possession like we did earlier."
But not immediately. Less than two minutes after Myers' second tally, Rolling Meadows cut the lead to 3-1 when Montiel unloaded from 15 yards on the left side to beat Mocarski. Olague earned the helper with a sharp pass to spring Montiel.
"We spread the field to use the whole field," said Olague, who also had a great look when he dashed ahead in the 66th minute before being robbed by Mocarski in spectacular fashion. "That's when chances happen."
Marquez said, "We got that boost of confidence with the goal. That little extra kick where you give 110 percent."
Prospect's defense held the fort from there, with solid play from senior defender Jacob Keil, and junior defenders Colin Sand and Bryan Morrison complementing Conroy -- and Mocarski -- in back.
"We were communicating well and shifting well on defense," Conroy said. "And we moved the ball as a team better than we have ... moved well through spaces to find people up-top. And our goalkeeper was fantastic as well."
Boduch finished the scoring with 2:18 showing, poking in the rebound of a wicked blast by Limanowka after the ball popped up following a tremendous, one-handed save by Galvan.
With the clock winding down, Sanchez sent a low, 25-yard shot that Mocarski easily scooped, and Prospect's 'D' blocked a wide-angle try by Marquez with about 10 seconds left.
"Rolling Meadows stole the momentum for a while there. They were coming up hard," Andrews said. "But we moved the ball nicely and utilized space well ... had a patience to our play as the game went on. It was a team effort."
Meanwhile, Olson and Co. pledged to remain patient concerning the Mustangs' fortunes, with senior midfielder Sergio Lucero Herrera and junior mid Adan Ramirez set to soon return from injuries.
"We'll get them back and that will give us a little more boost," Olson said.
Added Olague: "When we get them back, we can make a move."
