Chicagoland Soccer All-State Team
By Patrick Z. McGavin
A memorable 2016 girls season, which featured a state-record 415 teams, has concluded.
Now it's time for Chicagoland Soccer to recognize the best high school female players in Illinois with its first all-state team.
Chicagoland Soccer sought out input from coaches and culled together reports and evaluations from its staff. There were no limits on how many players a coach could nominate. Any player who competed for an Illinois high school varsity team, public or private, was eligible for consideration.
The Chicagoland Soccer all-state team was not limited to a specific number of players. The only goal was to honor the best players in the state. It was a daunting task, because Illinois has so many great players.
Statistics were important in evaluating each player, though it was also important to adjudicate the numbers and frame them within the context of team success, strength of schedule and quality of competition.
Accomplished players from the Class of 2016, who were not named to the All-State Team, were recognized as Chicagoland Soccer Special Mention honorees.
