Playoff road map set
By Dave Surico
The IHSA announced its playoff assignments Wednesday.
In Class 3A, Barrington will host two of the four supersectionals.
One includes the 19-team Bartlett and 18-team DeKalb sectionals.
In the Bartlett event, which is not broken down into regionals yet, Chicagoland Soccer has nine teams. Among them, Elk Grove, St. Charles East and Wheaton North will host regionals. The remaining Chicagoland Soccer teams are: host Bartlett; Lake Park; St. Charles North; Willowbrook; West Chicago; and Wheaton Warrenville South. Conant could be a threat here.
DeKalb's group includes four Chicagoland Soccer teams -- Crystal Lake South, which will play in Jacobs' regional, and regional hosts Streamwood and Huntley. Boylan, which won the Barrington Classic, will be dangerous in this grouping
Barrington's second supersectional features the 19-team Palatine and 18-team Niles North sectionals.
At Palatine, four Chicagoland Soccer teams will try to advance including regional hosts Barrington and Buffalo Grove. Fremd and Hersey will also compete in this group, which has not been broken down into regional fields, and needs one more school to host the opening round. Warren, Libertyille, Lake Zurich and the hosts will be threats to take this sectional.
Only Leyden and Prospect will compete in the Niles North Sectionall regional assignments have not yet been made. Tough New Trier and Lane Tech are also in this part of the bracket.
The bulk of Chicagoland Soccer teams play in the Lewis University Supersectional, which is comprised of the 19-team Bolingbrook and 18-team Lyons sectionals.
At Bolingbrook, 13-of-the-19 slots are filled by CS teams, including regional hosts Metea Valley and Naperville North. The sectional still needs one regional host. Included in this group are: Marmion Academy; Waubonsie Valley; West Aurora; Batavia; Benet Academy; Naperville Central; Neuqua Valley; Oswego East; Plainfield Central; Plainfield North; and Plainfield South.
Six Chicagoland Soccer teams will compete in the Lyons Sectional. Downers Grove South and Hinsdale Central will host half of the regional action. St. Ignatius, Hinsdale South, and Oak Park and River Forest will play in the group which includes always-dangerous Morton.
In Class 2A's Hampshire Sectional, St. Francis will act as a regional host. Wheaton Academy stands in the way of the Spartans advance deeper in the Lewis University Supersectional bracket. Saint Viator starts in the Grayslake Central Sectional of the Stevenson Supersectional. Regional assignments have not yet been announced. As it's currently configured, Wheaton Academy/St. Francis and Saint Viator could meet in a state semifinal match if the teams advance. However Notre Dame (Peoria) could stand in the way of the Wheaton schools.
The tournament seeds will be announced in mid-afternoon of Oct. 2.
