Chicagoland Soccer Top 25
By Patrick Z. McGavin
With parity the dominant lesson so far, Schaumburg jumps to the top after its back-to-back 3-0 victories over previously top 10-ranked Wheeling and Barrington. The Saxons' only loss, a 3-1 defeat to eventual champion Glenbrook North in the Northside College Showcase at New Trier, appears more and more an outlier.
The PepsiCo Showdown disrupted the top of the rankings with the top two-seeds, defending champion and former no. 3 Morton and previously top-ranked Wheaton Academy getting upset. On the basis of its 1-0 semifinal victory over Wheaton Academy, Libertyville makes the biggest leap in the poll, moving from honorable mention to no. 4. Its only loss was a season-opening setback against new no. 3 Evanston.
Lyons and Deerfield also made signigicant moves following impressive performances in the PepsiCo tournament.
