State preview: O’Fallon
By Curt Herron
When Justin Judiscak completed his first season as O'Fallon's coach in 2018, his team finished 2-15-2 and had a three-year mark of 10-41-7.
After posting a 14-8-2 record in his second season, it's safe to say that O'Fallon's program has made a huge transformation in season three. The Panthers improved to 18-2-0 and earned a trip to this weekend's Class 3A finals after claiming a 2-1 overtime victory over 2019 state champion, Naperville North on Monday at the Lockport Supersectional.
O'Fallon meets 17-1-0 Libertyville in a 6:30 p.m. semifinal match on Friday at Hoffman Estates High School. Barrington plays Lyons in the earlier semifinal match.
The winners will return to play for the big school title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The third place game will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fremd High School.
O'Fallon makes its first state appearance since 1995, when it dropped a 2-1 quarterfinals decision to Naperville Central.
The St. Louis' Metro East-area school will vie for its fourth state trophy. Previous wins have come in cheerleading (twice) and bowling.
The Panthers’ only losses came against Edwardsville and Triad. They avenged the first loss with a 3-1 win in the sectional semifinals. Triad has again shown its program's strength with a return to the Class AA semifinals.
O'Fallon defeated Normal 3-0 to advance to the supersectional.
The Panthers have allowed just seven goals this season, and just five in their last 18 matches. Senior Grace Vincent has been in the net for 17 matches and allowed just four goals.
Leading the Panthers' attack is senior forward Aubrey Mister, who has scored 25 goals and handed out four assists. Junior forward Avery Christopher ranks second on the scoring chart with 19 goals and 10 assists.
Senior forward Josie Nieroda has six goals and six assists and sophomore Kiley McMinn has handed out nine assists.
