Roundup for March 18
Fox Valley Conference
Crystal Lake South 1, Cary Grove 1
After a scoreless first half, the Gators escaped with the conference road point thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Josh Washington (Adam Rainey assist). Keeper Dominic Timberlake made seven saves for no. 11 Crystal Lake South (2-0-1, 1-0-1). Cary-Grove exited the game with a 0-1-2 overall and league record.
North Suburban Conference
Warren 2, Stevenson 1
The ninth-ranked Blue Devils came from behind at Stevenson. Alex Senko tallied assists on the equalizer from Ishaan Shah (32nd minute) and the game-winner from Edward Luna (75th) for Warren (3-0-0, 2-0-0). "There were very tough conditions tonight for both teams to play in," Blue Devils coach Jason Ahonen said. "Stevenson won the coin toss and chose to go against the wind in the first half. Stevenson caught us on a wonderful counter-attack. The boys refocused and continued to put pressure on Stevenson. Just 3 minuted later we were able to find the back of the net on a quality header by Ish Shah. I truly felt that we were more dangerous at times in the second half going against the wind than we were in the first half. The wind really made us focus on our angle passes and our angled runs. It opened up many opportunities for us to try and score."
Nonconference
Wheaton Academy 2, Naperville North 1
The host Warriors rallied from a halftime deficit to shock Chicagoland Soccer's top-ranked team. Junior Haetham Nasr assisted on classmate Robert Platt's first varsity goal that tied the game in the 44th minute and then scored the PK game-winner 12 minutes later. Keeper Declan Finnegan made eight saves for Wheaton Academy (2-1-1) and benefited from the stout defense of Solomon Pitts, Jude Barton, Xander Anaya and Gabriel Olsen. Naperville North (4-1-0) grabbed the lead on a corner kick goal from Jacob Ryu (Alex Barger assist) in the 36th minute. Wheaton Academy returns to action Friday at Ridgewood High School.
