After 91 minutes of scoreless soccer, sophomore Jocelyn Leigh scored twice to advance the Wildkits to the final. Evanston (21-2-1) will meet a fellow top seed in Barrington (22-2-0) at 5 p.m Friday in the semifinals at North Central College in Naperville. The Wildkits will try to remain perfect in state championship play. They won the title in their only other trip in 2002. Libertyville concluded its season at 17-4-2.
Normal West Supersectional
(4) Metea Valley 2, (3) Edwardsville 0
The Mustangs (20-2-1) used two first half goals to earn their first trip to the finals. Junior Tyra King scored the game-winner in the 25th minute off a Leanne Barrett assist, and sophomore Lucy Burk finished the scoring 10 minutes later with help from Ella Johnson. Metea Valley won its 12th-straight game and meets a no. 1-seeded semifinal foe in Lincoln-Way Central (24-1-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. Mustangs junior midfielder Jordan Lange said the team solidified its bond during the long bus ride to the game. “This means a lot to us,” she said. “We worked so hard to get here and just keep on playing our hardest and giving it our all. Teams like Naperville North and Naperville Central are done, and we are still going.”
Edwardsville, which knocked out defending state champ O'Fallon in a sectional semifinal, saw it's seven-game win streak end and finished the season 15-8-0.
