The Redwings (1-0-0), took control with a first half brace from Nico Picha. Brayden Fagbemi, Peter Hepburn and Charlie Auble (assist) cemented the result with goals after the break. Jack Kuelthau, Nick Roe, Danny Boyle and Owen McGarry contributed assists 16th-ranked Benet. Keepers Evan Lucas (zero saves, 65 minutes) and Drew Connell (one, 15) shared the shutout.

Hinsdale Central (0-0-1) took the lead in the first half thanks to a Luca Davies goal and Braden Henry assist and held on until surrendering the tying goal in the final three minutes. "A great first game for us annually, not just because coach Szymanski is a former player of mine, but because we know they will test us in so many ways," said Red Devils coach Mike Wiggins. "They are physical and are always looking to challenge every play. ... We played well today." Hinsdale Central hosts Timothy, Barrington and nationally ranked Marquette (Wis.) in its Red and White Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Goalkeeper Declan Finnegan and the backline protected the outcome for host Wheaton Academy with several key saves and defensive plays late in the second half. The senior finished with five saves.
