Group B
Lyons 4 Grayslake Central 1
Nolan O'Malley, Skip Locke, Michael Neidermeyer and Ty Williams scored for the winners. Grayslake Central went into the half with a tie on a Peder Harvey goal after an Owen Aaberg helper. "It's a shame we didn't get a result to match the performance today, because we played very well," said Grayslake Central coach Tom Hamilton. "Lyons is a quality attacking team that applies pressure very quickly, but our team defended well together and kept the ball moving quickly to find space and create chances. We had them on the back foot for some good stretches with quick, simple passing and intelligent movement, and for all but five minutes late in the second half I thought we played at an exceptional level. But in those 5 minutes when we let up a bit Lyons proved their potency and finished on three set pieces in quick succession. This will teach us that it takes a full 80 minutes against the top teams."

Group 2
Crystal Lake South 4, Marian Central 1
Brothers Ryan Coughlin and Tom Coughlin each scored and assisted the other to lead the Gators to the win and a berth in the Saturday final against Wauconda. Crystal Lake South advanced via a tiebreaker over Palatine. Ty Getzinger (Colton Weidner) and Alex Canfield (Michal Dejworek) also scored.
Nonconference
Deerfield 4, Taft 1
The Warriors improved to 2-3-0 with the home victory. Deerfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Tim Frenkel laid off a pass to Ben Taxman, whose ball over the top beat the Eagles defense and found Nikita Bankevich in space. Bankevich caromed his shot off the far post and in after 13 minutes. Taft equalized on a header off a long free kick in the 25th minute. Ryan Grady restored the Warrior lead when he stole the ball from a defender and went in alone on the keeper, slotting the ball low to the keeper's left for the first varsity goal. The senior, who is normally the Warriors starting keeper, is recovering from an upper-body injury. Frenkel got a goal of his own in the 42nd minute when he finished off a nice passing sequence from Bankevich and Jude Tatham. Bankevich was chopped down in the area in the 47th minute, and Tatham converted the penalty for the final margin. Adam Odzer and Josh Berman combined for three saves for the Warriors.
West Aurora 9, Yorkville 2
J.C. Noyola (unassisted) and Caleb Aquino (Edgar Barrientos) scored for the Foxes (3-2-0), but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Blackhawks. "All credit goes to West Aurora, and the effort and poise they put forth," said Yorkville coach Andrew Johnson, whose team travels to Minooka for a 10:45 a.m. game Saturday.
Wheaton Academy 3, Wheaton Warrenville South 0
The Warriors, ranked sixth in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25, received two goals and an assist from Owen Setran. Logan Finnegan also scored, and the Kilgallons, Jack and Seamus, each had an assist. The Wheaton Academy defense allowed only two shots and recorded its third-straight shutout. The Warriors (4-0-0) host CVCA from Ohio at noon Saturday.
