The Gators (1-1-1) held off the no. 19 Zee-Bees (3-0-1) on the opening day of the six-team round-robin thanks to a clean-sheet from keeper Logan Vargas (three saves). "I felt we contained a high-powered offense for most of the match," said Crystal Lake South coach Brian Allen. "We had two great opportunities to come away with a win -- a free kick that hit the post and a great stop of a PK in the second half. So the guys were a bit disappointed in that, but we will definitely take the point. We look to build off the numerous other positives we saw as we continue on the rest of the week in this tournament." The Gators race face Palatine in the second round of pool play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Stavros Veremis picked up his second shutout in a row with outstanding work by his backline, Diego Chicas, Mark Szklarczyk, Tyler Nack, Ayan Sheikh and Diego Navarro," said head coach Spero Mandakas.

The Warriors gave new head coach Ryan Crane his first varsity victory behind two goals and two assists from Ryder Coleman and a brace from Christian Castro. Addison Simon, Nathan Garcia and James Weiner recorded solo tallies.

The ninth-ranked Blue Devils (4-0-0) scored four times in the opening 22 minutes to put the game away. Miguel Garcia and Matt Paraskos contributed braces. Timmy DeSanto knocked the second goal home. Lucas Ahonen led the helper brigade with a pair; Brady Lockwood and Ryan Stanciak collected one apiece. Ethan Cole (two saves) and Edgar Gonzalez (one) split the shutout. "I thought the boys had a brilliant five-minute span where they scored three goals." said coach Jason Ahonen. "Each game we seem to get a little bit more confident playing together. I thought our backline, Ryan Stanciak, Tyler Hughes and Mike Galvan, once again did an amazing job and allowed us to be so attack-oriented with their unselfish team play."
