The Red Devils were led by Christopher Azzo (goal, assist) and Braden Henry (two helpers). Luca Davies, Nolan Spence Dray Glashin and John Knott knocked one home each for the hosts. Braden Henry (two), Martin Montoya and Dayton DiTomasso provided assistance. Davies, who has recorded at least one point in every game, leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists (10 points). “Luca is playing at a very high level, giving us an attacking-minded striker who continues to create great scoring opportunities," said coach Mike Wiggins. "He has very quickly established himself as one of the best attacking players in the state, and his presence in the Marquette (Wis.) match (a 2-0 win) highlighted that. Tonight he got us a lead very early in the game, and that was exactly what we needed." Goalkeepers Martin Contreras and Henrique Ribiero shared the shutout. The unbeaten Red Devils (4-0-1) have outscored their opponents this season by a combined 15-1. Spence, Azzo and Knott each recorded their first varsity goal. "The game was physical, but our guys responded well," Wiggins said. "Brother Rice is always well-coached, and bring an attacking mindset that forces us to deal with that pressure from start to finish. We scored early, but they only became stronger as a result. I thought we handled that response well and kept our own attacking mindset for sure." The Red Devils will train until they travel to Metea Valley for a Sept. 7 match. Their next matchup is the Senior Day game against no. 4 New Trier on Sept. 10.
Warren 3, Indian Trail (Wis.) 1
Lucas Ahonen broke a 1-1 tie after an assist from Brady Lockwood, and Miguel Garcia (Andrew May) added an insurance goal for the no. 9 Blue Devils (5-0-0). Leo Arizmendi opened the scoring on an Ahonen assist for a 1-0 halftime lead. Host Indian Trail drew even in the 42nd minute. "Tip of the hat to Indian Trail," said coach Jason Ahonen. "They made it very difficult at times with their work-rate and constant pressure. The goal they scored was the best goal I’ve seen all year -- a wonderful side-volley. I was pleased how we responded. Brady Lockwood's cross was dummied by Chris Crowson and left Lucas Ahonen open about 10 yards out. He was able to beat the Indian Trail defender to find the back of the net for the game-winner. Andrew May played a lovely early ball into space for Miguel Garcia to seal the victory."
