Roundup (Tuesday, September 11)
Chicago Public League
Premier Division North
Lane 1, Taft 0 (suspended)
Dangerous weather around the new Taft Soccer facility in Harwood Heights caused the Chicago Public League Premier Division North match of the night with visiting Lane to be suspended Wednesday night.
The two longtime rival city rivals will resume things in the 26th minute at 5 p.m. Thursday with Lane (3-1-1, 2-0-0) holding a one-goal advantage by virtue of a David Arroyo strike in the 23rd minute.
"That was not a good goal we gave up. Up until David's goal, we were playing some very good soccer," said Taft manager Jeff Lucco.
The Eagles (2-5-1, 1-1-0), who entered the match off a 5-0 win over Sullivan on Monday, had trouble with their organization along the back during the early exchanges. Some of that was caused by the pace of Indians' front-runners Kamil Hochman and Arroyo.
The homeside finally came into the game with Christopher Reynoso, Brandon Tovar and Jairo Duarte (off the bench) providing pace and creativity in the attack.
However, despite the inspiration by this trio, which attacked with speed and purpose, the Indians backline, led by Matt Bozek and his twin brother Jacob between the sticks, kept quality chances on frame to just a few before the sky to the north lit up and eventually put an end to this contest.
"It's too bad the weather changed, and came through so quickly to end this game early," said Indians manager Andrew Ricks. "It was a good one to that point, and we look forward to coming back tomorrow to finish up." -- Mike Garofola
Upstate Eight Conference
West Chicago 3, Streamwood 1
The host Sabres held a 1-0 halftime lead on West Chicago, ranked 14th in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25, but couldn't hold on. Streamwood saw its record fall to 3-3-2, 1-1-0.
