Mid-Suburban League
Elk Grove 0, Hoffman Estates 0, suspended
After getting off to a late start because of a heavy rainstorm Tuesday evening, the match between host Elk Grove and Hoffman Estates was postponed due to lightning with 19:12 remaining in the first half.
There was no immediate announcement regarding when the game would resumed.
Elk Grove produced the shortened affair's first good opportunity. A throw-in by junior midfielder Ivan Perez in the eighth minute found senior defender Jerry Benitez, who fired a shot that was blocked in traffic. Grenadiers junior mid Joey Weber quickly jumped on the ricochet, but his attempt was saved by Hawks senior goalkeeper
Christian Peralta.
Two minutes later, Benitez put a shot on net that Peralta easily stopped.
In the 10th minute, Hoffman Estates senior forward Remzi Ahmeti rifled a 30-yard free kick that was no problem for Elk Grove sophomore keeper Dylan Ingebrigsten. With 25:40 showing, Hawks sophomore middie Joey Sopikiotis nailed a shot that Ingebrigsten also handled with ease.
About 30 seconds later, Ahmeti started a rush which resulted in a try by senior midfielder Konrad Kieruzal that was nabbed by Ingebrigsten. Less than a minute before the Thor Guard alarm sounded, Ahmeti dribbled in close but managed only a weak shot on goal.
Elk Grove entered the match with a 2-3-0 overall record, including 1-2-0 in conference play. Hoffman Estates came in at 1-5-0, 1-3-0. -- Ken Keenan
