Roundup (September 22)
Central Suburban League
Deerfield 6, Maine West 1
The Warriors ended a four-game winless streak with authority. Matthew Seed, Justin Blumenthal, Ryder Coleman, Christian Castro, Addison Simon and James Weiner provided the scoring firepower. Keeper Xander Yang made eight saves for Deerfield (4-6-1, 1-2-1).
Mid-Suburban League
Barrington 1, Palatine 1 (2 OT)
Broncos senior goalkeeper Iker Villagomez scored with :01 on the clock to rescue a point for Barrington (5-4-3, 1-2-2). The Class of '23's Zack Sondergaard scored on Senior Night for Palatine (8-5-1, 3-2-1).
North Suburban Conference
Warren 3, Waukegan 0
Tyler Hughes gave the Blue Devils (7-3-1, 2-2-1) the lead off a Matty Paraskos assist in the 37th minute, but the 16th-ranked team in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25 didn't put the game until the last nine minutes. Tommy DeSanto talled the insurance goal after a Leo Arizmendi assist in the 72nd minute. Miguel Garcia ended the scoring on a 79th-minute free kick after Paraskos drew a foul. Keeper Edgar Gonzalez made six saves for the shutout. "Definitely your typical Waukegan vs. Warren soccer match," Warren coach Jason Ahonen said. "Energy was high from both teams and both sets of fans made it feel like a playoff-type atmosphere. Very excited for our boys getting back on track after a heartbreaking loss to Mundelein on Tuesday. Waukegan is a very skilled and dangerous team, and Julian Mendoza kept them in the game with his play in goal. We were fortunate to score in the first half, and then find two late goals to seal the game. This is a great win leading into our Homecoming weekend."
